Sodium sulfide, also known as alkali sulfide and smelly alkali, is an inorganic salt with strong moisture absorption and easy solubility in water. Hydrolysis generates sodium hydroxide and sodium hydrosulfide. The aqueous solution is strongly alkaline and corrosive.
